Who is Att. Akan Gürkan?
Adv Akan Gurkan was born in Nicosia on 13.06.1978. After graduating from 23 Nisan Primary School in Kyrenia, he was admitted to the Turk Maarif College in Nicosia ranking first in his class, where he completed his secondary school and high school educations. He was the recipient of the British Chevening scholarship, which at the time was awarded to only one pupil across Cyprus, and was admitted to Warwick University, one of the most prestigious universities in England, to study law with full scholarship. While studying law, he continued to pursue and develop his childhood interest and passion towards technology and computer programming. After graduating from university and completing his military service, he started working with Adv. Selcuk Gurkan in 2003 and became the managing partner of Gurkan&Gurkan Advocates and Legal Advisers. He achieved many accomplishments during his legal career, and was acknowledged as one of the most successful lawyers of his time by the legal community due to his brilliance, character and outstanding knowledge of the law. Due to his devotion to his profession, he served as a member of the Kyrenia Local Bar’s legal committee. Adv. Akan Gurkan contributed to the Annan Plan negotiations as well as many other important projects, draft bills and social matters. Adv. Akan Gurkan passed away in 2017 at the age of 39 in a road traffic accident.
